Laura Mazzaferro, LMHC, CT

Lead Therapist

My therapeutic approach is unique to each individual, as I take the time to understand ones challenges, and patiently guide you to your goals. I wish to empower each person I work with to begin to recognize their inner strength, by increasing ones specific coping skills in and outside of the therapy space. Together we can begin to explore the many fragments that create your thoughts, emotions and behaviors. We will discover what is working for you, what is working against you, while creatively preparing for change. The first step to the best version of yourself is self-awareness, and the fact that you’re here reading this paragraph right now means you are ready.

Licensed professional with a Master's degree within Mental Health Counseling (LMHC); and an Advanced Certificate in Grief Counseling. Experience working with adolescent and adult populations, struggling with grief, generalized anxiety, social phobia, depression, baby blues, OCD, and poor adjustments.

Elissa Cutler, LMHC-LP

Associate Therapist

Mental health is something we all must prioritize and nurture and not something we should be ashamed of seeking help for. I will provide a supportive, safe, and therapeutic environment as we address whatever challenges you may be facing. Together we will work on achieving your goals through learning how to examine your thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and learning coping skills that suit your needs. My approach to counseling integrates Cognitive Behavioral and humanistic client-centered therapy techniques but I believe it is essential to tailor treatment to the specific needs of each individual.

I earned my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the College of Staten Island. I have experience working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, grief and trauma as well as families struggling with relationship and communication issues. As a mother, I am also interested in helping other parents thrive in dealing with the many changes and adjustments that come with this amazing life
transition.

Testimonials

"The person that I was when I first starting seeing Laura to the person I am today are two completely different people. Laura helped me better identify and understand what triggers my anxiety, as well as techniques to bring myself out of anxiety attacks and because I now know my triggers, I can sometimes avoid them all together. Sessions with Laura didn't always feel like a therapy session, but a visit with a friend who has an unbiased opinion, who made me think and genuinely cared about me and my well being. Because of Laura I am not ashamed of my anxiety, I embrace it and I feel so much stronger. I would not only recommend therapy to those who struggle, I would recommend Laura, every time."

"Going to a new therapist can make anyone feel anxious and worried. With that said, I'm glad that I found Laura and that she was able to help me with all of my anxiety. She has helped me through a lot of difficult situations and I could not be more grateful to be her client.

“When I first started seeing Laura, I was at the lowest point in my life. I always felt alone, even when I was surrounded by people and was easily becoming overwhelmed when put into a social setting. Laura helped me overcome my social anxiety at my own pace and challenged me to do things I have never done before. Now I feel better about myself and, even though I still get anxious sometimes, I remember the techniques she taught me to calm me down and overcome those feelings.”

"I could not ask for a better therapist than Laura! She has helped me understand my feelings, grow my self awareness, and deal with my anxiety. Talking to Laura is as easy and comfortable as talking to a friend. I look forward to every session!"
